OPENQUERY and variable question

I am trying to create a stored proc that uses OPENQUERY to get data from a db2 database. Can anyone look at the code below and let me know what I am doing wrong.

This is my error msg:

Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 1

Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'SELECT'.

Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Line 2

Line 2: Incorrect syntax near ')'.

This is my code:

USE [FVDashBoard]

GO

SET ANSI_NULLS ON

GO

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

GO

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spDaily_TBT_Load_OpenQuery]

as

-- define variables

declare @.FM_DT char(10)

set @.FM_DT = (SELECT CALENDAR_DT FROM dbo.PROD_SCHD WHERE(ISSUER_NO = 90)AND (CALENDAR_DT =CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), GETDATE() - 2, 120)))

declare @.remotesql nvarchar(4000)

set @.remotesql =

'select * from OPENQUERY (BACARDI, '+

'SELECT BRAND_NO FROM WRKCON.DLY_TBT_RCNCLTN_CONTROL

WHERE SOR_REC_CREAT_DT ='+@.FM_DT+ ')'

PRINT @.remotesql

EXEC (@.remotesql)

Thanks!

The second parameter of OPENQUERY (sql statement) should be string – enclosed by single quote. Try the below query..

Code Snippet

set @.remotesql =

'select * from OPENQUERY (BACARDI, '+

'''SELECT BRAND_NO FROM WRKCON.DLY_TBT_RCNCLTN_CONTROL

WHERE SOR_REC_CREAT_DT ='+@.FM_DT+ ''')'

|||

This statement

'select * from OPENQUERY (BACARDI, '+

'SELECT BRAND_NO FROM WRKCON.DLY_TBT_RCNCLTN_CONTROL

WHERE SOR_REC_CREAT_DT ='+@.FM_DT+ ')'

seems to be missing a closing parenthesis.

|||

Thanks so much for your reply.

As a follow-up question, how could I change the vaule of @.FM_DT? Currently the value of the variable is something like 2007-08-03. What I need is for the variable to be something like '2007-08-03'. Do you know of a way to do this.

Thanks for your help!

|||

You need to add a few more quotes...

Something like this:

= '''+ @.FM_DT + ''')'

Do a PRINT or SELECT on your statement until it is correct.

Open url in a new window

hi, I got a problem with reporting services 2005.

I have to create a link activated by clicking on an image.

In the image navigation properties I inserted the link in "jump to url" but the problem is that no new window is opened, the url is opened in the initial report page.
I tried to use jscript this way:

javascript:window.open("myurl","", "scrollbars=yes,width=800,height=600,left=0,top=0");

but in this case the url opens in a new window but a blank page is shown in the report page.

How can I solve this problem and open the url in a new window without changing the report page?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english

="javascript:void window.open('http://yoururl&rs:Command=Render.....and whatever else you need "')"

|||

ok it works!

Thanks a lot for your help

|||

I made the Jump to URL expression as:

=void window.open('http://barn/apx/PortfolioDetail.aspx?linkfield=" & Fields!APX_PortfolioID.Value & "', '_blank')"

The above expression opens a new window correctly when the source report is run from the SSRS ReportServer or Reports (ReportsManager) pages. So far so good. But if the source report is first opened in an HTML frame via the following link, then clicking on the above link (on the source report) does nothing at all (just gives a click sound from IE):

<a href="http://brat/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fAccount+Profile&rs:Command=Render&rc:Zoom=100" target=apcontent><u>Accounts</u></a>

Very perplexing (at least to me). Any ideas on why this could be happening would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

|||

Adding more info to above. On my development machine (XP/SP2), the link is working from a frame also.

So, the link is not working on the production intranet site for some reason. The dev platform is 2005 Reporting Services with the reporting server databases on sql server 2005 on XP/SP2. The production platform is 2005 Reporting Services but the reporting server databases are on sql server 2000 on windows 2003 server.

The data source for the report is identical for both the platform (stored proc on sql 2000). Any ideas? TIA.

Hi, mate, how did you make it work? I used the same code but the link disappeared when I use '=javascript'. I am using SQL 2005 reporting services. I just want make UserID as an URL and when I click it, it open a new window, it just doesn't work.

|||Yeahhh!I got it working now.Thanks folks!|||

I have a piece of JavaScript for Jump to URL like the following:

=void window.open('MyPage.aspx?ContactId=" + CStr(Fields!ContactId.Value) + "','_blank','location=yes,toolbar=yes,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,left=100,top=100,height=600,width=1000')"

The SSRS report is hosted by a Report Viewer control in a Web page (like MyPage.aspx).

The Web page is under a sub-folder of the application root (like http://MyApp/Module1).

The link works fine when the page shows up for the first time (http://MyApp/Module1/MyPage.aspx and the report shows up as expected).

However, if the Refresh button of the Report Viewer is pressed, the access path between the application root and page is chopped off (and I will have an error 404 message says Requested URL: /MyApp/MyPage.aspx resource can not be found.

Everything works fine if I change the JavaScript to:

=void window.open('http://MyServer/MyApp/Module1/MyPage.aspx?ContactId=" + CStr(Fields!ContactId.Value) + "','_blank','location=yes,toolbar=yes,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,left=100,top=100,height=600,width=1000')"

The problem with hard coding the full access path is that I have to modify the JavaScript every time when I roll a report from development to production.

I’ve tried a variety of access path strings to make the JavaScript server independent (such as ../Module1/MyPage.aspx, and so on) and have no luck so far.

Can anyone help?

I know it's a while late - but I thought it worth posting something here which I have struggled with for some time in RS.

I have a site with 2 frames - left (named "Menu") for the... you guessed it... Menu. and the right frame called "Body".

I was using several dynamic menu items to open up RS reports.

I went to use this, as per many examples, and it did not work. It just clicked with no action (or with Friendly Error Messages turned on it came up with an error screen with the java<removethis>script in the address bar.

="java<removethis>script:void(window.open('" + Trim(Fields!MY_URL.Value) + "','_blank', 'location=no,toolbar=no,left=100,top=100,height=600,width=800'))"

I figured out after much trial and error that because everything in RS has a target of _top it was causing problems in a frameset. So, the solution which I came up with, and have implemented is as follows:

In the left menu I have added &rc:LinkTarget=Body to the end of all the calls to the report (they populate in the Body frame). Then I use the above javascript for all URL's, and it opens them in a blank window as required.

Hope this may help someone else who struggles with this one.

Cheers,

AndyCJ

Open reports with report builder

Hi!

We have a "folder hiriarchy" in reporting services with permission for different users to only create reports in their own folder. However, it would be nice if they (in report builder) could open eachothers reports, modify them and then save them in theri own folder. In this case, if they find a useful report that someone else has created, they could just make their own small modifications and save it in their own folder.

The problem is that I cant't seem to find a securitysetting that allow this. Either they can create/modify/delete the reports in a "folder" or they can't even open them in report builder...

Is there a solution to my problem?

Open encryption key in stored procedure

Hi,
I would like to create a stored procedure, which accept RunAsUser, MasterKeyPassword and also ASymmetricKeyPassword. In this stored procedure, it call OPEN MASTER KEY and etc. I put these code in stored procedure so that my support staff can call it when doing maintenance by passing the parameter. I don't expect them to remember OPEN MASTER KEY and etc syntax.

However, I hit error "Invalid Syntax" when I run my code as below. Any ideas?

Thank you

-- ================================================
-- Template generated from Template Explorer using:
-- Create Procedure (New Menu).SQL
--
-- Use the Specify Values for Template Parameters
-- command (Ctrl-Shift-M) to fill in the parameter
-- values below.
--
-- This block of comments will not be included in
-- the definition of the procedure.
-- ================================================
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
-- =============================================
-- Author: <Author,,Name>
-- Create date: <Create Date,,>
-- Description: <Description,,>
-- =============================================
CREATE PROCEDURE GrantMe
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
@.RunAsUser varchar(20), @.MasterKey varchar(30), @.ASKey varchar(30)
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;

EXEC AS USER=@.RunAsUser;

OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD=@.MasterKey;

OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY HRMS
DECRYPTION BY ASYMMETRIC KEY FlexHRMS WITH PASSWORD=@.AsKey ;
END
GO

I don't believe DDL supports parameterization. You could use dynamic SQL, but it should be easier to simply use the DecryptByKeyAutoAsymKey built-in which will automatically open the symmetric key for you so you don't have to use the OPEN command.

Sung

|||

BTW, you should not have to call OPEN MASTER KEY if the ASYMMETRIC KEY is encrypted by password.

Sung

|||

DDL statements don’t support variables as arguments, therefore you need to change the OPEN MASTER KEY and OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY statements. Unfortunately , you will need to use dynamic SQL (the non-parameterized form) in order to execute such statements with user-defined content. Because you will need to create non-parameterized dynamic SQL, I really recommend reading about SQL injection and how to prevent it; below I included a few links regarding SQL Injection:

· Dynamic SQL & SQL Injection http://blogs.msdn.com/raulga/archive/2007/01/04/dynamic-sql-sql-injection.aspx

· SQL Injection http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms161953.aspx

· New SQL Truncation Attacks And How To Avoid Them http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/06/11/SQLSecurity/default.aspx

· Stop SQL Injection Attacks Before They Stop You http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/04/09/sqlinjection/default.aspx

· Second-order Code Injection Attacks (http://www.ngssoftware.com/papers/SecondOrderCodeInjection.pdf)

I have some additional comments that hopefully will also help.

I am assuming that the intention of this SP is to open the DB master key (meaning it is not protected by the service master key) and open the symmetric key HRMS, leaving both keys opened in order to allow both of them to be used later in the same session, correct?

I would recommend adding comments specifying the intention of opening the keys and not closing them is intentional.

I am also assuming that the impersonation (EXECUTE AS USER) takes place because the calling context doesn’t have direct permission over either the symmetric key or the asymmetric key protecting it. Because the caller would need IMPERSONATE USER permission on @.RunAsUser, and this permission allows the calling user to impersonate that principal anytime, you may want to consider using EXECUTE AS in the module definition, or use digital signatures for allowing access to the keys instead.

I hope this information will be useful.

open and shortcuts for management studio at the same place

Hi im pretty new to sql server management studio. I want to know if its possible to create shortcuts to certain database or even tables. I connect to a sql server hosting company that hundreds of databases which take mins to load the list and i need to scroll down and find my database. Filter doesnt work for database names. Is it possible to create a shortcut for the same db same view same login. Thanks

what u can do is

(a) go to the properties of the SQLManagement ShortCUt on u r desktop

(b) u will have something like this : "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SqlWb.exe"

(c) just add -S <ServerName> -d <databaseName> -U <UserName> -P <Password> to it.

for me its looks like : "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SqlWb.exe" -S tEST-ABC -d gpx -U sa -P sa

i hope i have answered u r question

Madhu

That shortcut opens the query window against that database for that server.

There is no direct way to achieve but you can set SSMS to 'open in empty environment' and then you can select the object explorer to connect to desired server.

open a web page through SQL SQL job

Hi all,

now, i create a job to open a page on timely basis. The job's Vb script is like that:

Dim WshShell
Set WshShell =CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run ("http://www.google.com")
Set WsShell = Nothing

when i run that job, i got that error:

The job succeeded. The Job was invoked by User host\username. The last step to run was step 1 (Step 1).

how can i solve it? i still don't know whether that script will open a webpage or not

The following script opens a webpage in a VBS Script:

Dim WshShell
Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run "iexplore.exe http://www.google.com"
Set WsShell = Nothing

|||

I think that one will work in web page. But, now i m trying in SQL job. I have tried with that code. But, nothing happen.

regards,

|||It seems to be impossible to open a website through SQL Server, neither using SQL Agent Job (ActiveX script task), nor using xp_cmdshell. I tried both, and the IEXPLORER process can be started (you can check in Task Manager) and then hung, waiting for some response. I guess this is becausexp_cmdshell operates synchronously. Control is not returned until the command shell command completes. And the SQL Server can't proceed with reponse from IEXPLORER process so both IEXPLORER and SQL Server hangs.|||so, how abt calling a bat file. And then, through bat file, call the web page. is it the possible way?

Only render a Document Map and the Report

How can I create a Document Map and a Report without displaying the Report
Manager toolbar?
I tried "&rc:Area=DocMapAndReport" but that had the same effect as
"&rc:Area=Report".
ThanksHi Rick. There's a render command for whether or not to show the toolbar (or
parameters). BOL should have it in there. I can't remember exactly what it
is... Sorry.

If you are, using this param will cause the toolbar to not be created and
thus you will not see the document map.

Only Public is selected but users can still create tables?

Hi all,
I've come into a situation where there is a Windows domain users group that
has access to a database and can create tables but only has the public
role(?). Is there somewhere else this role is set to allow this? It's for a
third party application. -Thanks, DaveHave you checked the detailed permissions applied to 'public' on that db?

If you've taken the default SQL Server installation for security, there is a
BUILTIN\Administrators group that gives anyone with administrative rights on
the server sysadmin equivalence on SQL Server. Check that those users are
not administrators on the server itself, or are domain admins.

Only get dates

Can anyone help me create an expression for a column in a query that holds
only the date portion of a smalldatetime column? I've tried DatePart and had
a look around for other functions but I couldn't find anything. Thanks in

Hi Gary,
Use CONVERT to convert it to character, using a format without time (or
using a character column short enough that the time won't fit). If you
need it in datetime format without the time (you'll get the default time:
midnight), cast the result back to datetime format.
SELECT getdate()
SELECT CONVERT (varchar(8), GETDATE(), 112)
SELECT CAST(CONVERT (varchar(8), GETDATE(), 112) AS datetime)
Best, Hugo

|||Thanks Hugo, that takes care of the main problem I had. I still have to
convert it back into a date variable but thats easy now.

Only first row appearing

New to Reporting services, I am trying to create a simple header/
detail report. I am not using subreports due to problems with
mysterious pagebreaking before a lengthy subreport. However, my
problem is now everything looks good in the preview screen, but in a
print or print layout I am only seeing the first header in the group
and the first row for that header.

It sounds kind-of like you have possibly set 'Page break at end' as
part of your grouping (if applicable). Right-click the table control
(if applicable) and select Properties. Select the Groups tab, then
select the 'Edit...' button and uncheck 'Page break at end.' Hope this
helps.

I do not have any page breaks set. I could see that happening, but
I'm not seeing any other records. In preview I have 4 groups with
2-30 records in each group. On print layout ALL I get is the header
and first record of the first group.

Only copy missing rows from one database to another

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to create a performant script to copy records from a table in a source database, to an identical table in a destination database.

In SQL 2000, I used to create a little lookup which did a count using certain fields. If the record was missing, I executed an INSERT query, otherwise an UPDATE query. The result was that the table on the destination side was always up to date. Duplicate rows were out of the question.

This was, if I'm not mistaking, a Data Transformation, using a bit of custom VBA code to govern the transfer. For each source row, the custom code was executed. Depending on the result of the custom code, a different query was launched.

Now I'm trying to do the same using SSIS in SQL 2005. Is there a task which does this for me, or do I have to script again? In the latter case, which type of task would I use?

(I thought of the Script Task, but then I would need to set up quite a bit myself.)

Thank you,

Bram

Look at the "checking to see if a record exists if so update else insert" post on the main page.

Which row is the 'first'? The row with the earliest datetime value? Rows
in a relational database table have no order so you need to specify your
rules that identify the 'first' row.
quote:

> SET @.hora=(SELECT horasCumples.hora FROM horasCumples
> LEFT JOIN Vcitas ON horasCumples.hora=Vcitas.hora)

Only horasCumples.hora is referenced in the column so the LEFT JOIN to the
Vcitas table serves no purpose. You will get all rows from horasCumples
regardless of the Vcitas table contents. This may not be exactly what you
want but you can use the following to select the horasCumple.hora value with
the earliest date:
SELECT @.hora= MIN(hora) FROM horasCumples
There are some fundamental problems with your trigger that need to be
addressed. Importantly, more than one row can be inserted with a single
INSERT statement. The example below illustrates a set-based technique that
eliminates the need to select values from the inserted table into variables.
INSERT INTO Vcitas
(
usuario,
fecha,
hora,
motivo,
tipo,
citaCon,
aviso,
descripcion,
categoria,
zona,
horaAbsoluta,
fechaAbsoluta
)
SELECT
i.usuario,
i.fechanac,
@.hora,
'Cumpleaos',
'P',
i.alias,
'Si',
NULL,
NULL,
NULL,
NULL,
NULL
FROM inserted i
Hope this helps.

Only * (All columns) in EM Query builder when database name contains a . (dot)

I encountered a nasty bug in SQL Server 2000.
Symptoms:
When you try to create a query in the Query Builder of Enterprise
Manager, the selected tables are displayed without columns. Only *
(All Columns) is displayed. Besides that, the table receives an alias
with <table name>_1. You can create such a query by right-clicking on
a table in the database browser and selecting the menu option Open
Table - Query. Queries will run just fine, but you will need to type
column names yourself.
Analysis:
When investigating this, the Profile told me that sp_columns_ex was
executed when a table was added to the diagram pane. When I add Table1
in database test.dot to the diagram pane:
exec sp_columns_ex N'test', N'Table1', N'dbo', N'dot', NULL
exec sp_columns_ex N'test', N' ', N'dbo', NULL, NULL
The first parameter to this stored procedure is the name of a linked
server. Apparently, the name causes a misinterpretation of the SQL
statement,
SELECT * FROM Table1 Table1_1
that was created by the query builder.
If the SQL statement is modified to:
SELECT * FROM [test.com].[dbo].[table1] table1_1
brackets are removed automatically and upon execution, the error
message
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not find server
'test' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to
sysservers.
is given. A linked server with name test and a database with name dot
are searched.
Solution:
Do not use . (a dot) in a database name.You might not get much response because virtually nobody who really
knows SQL Server will have anything to do with the Query Builder. I've
never opened it in all the years since it became available, and those
who try it don't seem to use it for long.
Query Analyzer does not provide the sort of "help" that Query Builder
does, but at least we only have to deal with the problems we create
for ourselves.
