Opening up SQL 2005 Management studio generates Winmgmt error
when I connect to a clustered SQL 2005 server using SQL Management Studio.
Has anyone ever encountered this and does anyone know how to stop this?
Event filter with query "select * from __InstanceModificationEvent within 10
where TargetInstance isa 'Win32_Service'" could not be (re)activated in
namespace "//./root/Microsoft/SqlServer/ComputerManagement" because of error
0x80041010. Events may not be delivered through this filter until the
problem is corrected.
Thanks
I have the same error. It appears mmc cannot connect to wmi class.

We get the same "select *" error message and found that it was probably resulting from a unisys sentinel script; practically the exact verbage could be found in several such .vbs scripts. Certainly some event is triggered and the sentinel software attempts to run one of the scripts and fails. The failure may be due to the sentinel software trying to perform a sql2000 task on a sql2005 server. We're still hunting for an exact cause though.
I hope that this points you in the right direction for your particular case.

Opening a Report from a VB Application
I have a VB Application that lists all the reports on my report server in a
treeview control. Now all i need to do is open a report when it is clicked
on in my app.. What is the VB code to do this?
Thanks
SanjeevUse a browser control on your VB form. You can add this from the file
c:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll. Read the report path from the treeview
control when a user selects an item to view, then use URL access to display
the report in the browser control as follows:
AxWebBrowser1.Navigate("http://MyReportServer/ReportServer?" & reportPath)
AxWebBrowser1 is the default name of the browser control when you place it
on the form.
There are lots of examples in Books Online. Look up the topic "Using URL
Acces from a Windows application".

What i did was add shdocvw.dll as a reference to my to my windows
application.
Then I added "Imports SHDocVw" to the code.
But the Browser Control didnt appear in my ToolBox.
I suppose that this was the wrong way to go about it.
Sorry to trouble you again but what is the riht way to go about this.
Thanks in advance

Storing the path to the files makes it possible to view and edit the files

Open up SQL Server for central server application...
that are within a chain want to be able to share their client lists.
I want to implement a sync process where each application would ping a
central server every 5-10 mins to check for changes made by any other
store to the client list, if any changes are made it would download
the new or modified clients then upload any clients that were modified
localy. I want the stores to ping for changes, I don't want to try to
implement some kind of real time system where there changes would
always be stored directly on the server as they make them.
My application uses MSDE so I was thinking about just throwing MSDE on
a central server that all the other computers could access over an
internet connection and keeping a master client list in this database.
The applications in each store would connect directy to MSDE to send
and get the data needed. My question is, how secure would it be to
open up my sql server port to the internet so each store could connect
to it? Is it enough to set a user account for the database and set a
SA password? If not, what else do I need to do? Also, I know it is
possible to set the SA password to blank with a simple query, so
doesn't this mean that SQL Server would not be secure at all even if I
set a password for user SA?
How can I do this and keep it secure? Or is there a better overall
approach to doing this?

Putting a database on the Internet is not a walk in the park. Not the least
if you have mixed-mode authentication. Someday someone will find that
server, and try sa passwords until he gets in. There is no way to tell
SQL Server to close the doors if there have been too many failed login
attempts.
Security issues are not my best subject, but I would guess that the best
is that you set up VPN connections between the stores. Then all that
is exposed to the Internet is the VPN login, and this is least safe against
brute force attacks. This also permits the stores to be in the same
domain, so that you can use Windows authentication, and turn of SQL
authentication.

Open db connection, disable Screen Saver?

Can a open db connection disable the screen saver from running?
Not that I can see how. If the software that has the db connection open is
doing something, then the computer may think the user is still using it.

Open database in a connected device
Hi Everybody:
I'm writting an standar application in c# that comunnicates with a sql server 2005 in a mobile device. The mobile device is connected to the pc with an usb wire. In the sample I've made, I've inserted in the form main a datagridview. I go on the wizard to select the data source. I choose a Microsoft SQL Server Mobile Edition data connection. The data source is tge activesync mobile device. I create a new database in the mobile device called test.sdf. The wizard has a button to check the conecttion and it rules. A new connection appears in the server explorer. I add rows through a query. I build the solution and no problem, but when I start the debug session an sqlceexception occurs: Data Source not found. In the database connection that the project has created the connection string is: Data Source ="Mobile Device\test.sdf";
I didn't write any code. I just went on the wizards. All the code has been inserted by visual studio 2005.
Any idea?
Please see this.
|||Thank you very much Ilya. I'll use the windows mobile power toys to get the .sdf file.Friday, March 9, 2012

I tried to do it with a javascript function

Online/Offline Application that must synchronize with SQL 2005
Hi !
I must developp a WPF Application with online and offline capabilities! First I think to use XML file on the local application and transfer these XML files to a webservice that will synchronize them with the SQL 2005 Server
BUT
I read about "Replication"... and I think it will be much simpler to implement!!!
Do you think it is a good idea to have a "local" SQL Express database and replicate it (when connection available is) with the principal database that will run a standard SQL 2005 version!
Do you have another suggestion to make such an application?
Thanks for help!!!
PlaTyPuS
PS: when the sql express solution a good idea is, does it give a simple solution to programm an automatic synchronization every hour?
Yes, you can use replication to sync data from the "remote" server to "local" server. You can schedule the job run in certain interval or even continuously.
You might want to take a look Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET. It might be exactly what you want. The CTP release can be downloaded from here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=75FEF59F-1B5E-49BC-A21A-9EF4F34DE6FC&displaylang=en). Rather than simply replicating database data, it provides a set of API to sync between data services and a data store. There are also more discussion in another MSDN forum: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1225&SiteID=1
