Opening port 1434

That would imply that SQL Server is listening on port 1434. Usually SQL
Server listens on port 1433, and the reason you'd need port 1434 is for UDP
1434 to allow the "SQL Browser" capabilities of SQL Server to locate named
instances on a server.

Opening hyperlink Url in new window

Hello,

I have areport with a text box. The text box is hyperlinked to another report url. The report opens in a new page when previewed with RS 2005 but when deployed the report opens in teh same page from where it is referenced.

How can I set a property with the texbox to always open in a new page the hyperlinked report.

Thanks in advance

'Kiran.

I'm not going to be any help... I have the same question. The report itself uses XML to generate not html so it is not a matter of setting target = '_blank'. That's about as far as I've gotten. Any help with this would be appreciated by me as well.

Thanks

opening ADP combo box causes high CPU utilization on SQL Server; query never completes

Hello all,
I'm using an Access 2000 (9.0.6926 SP-3) ADP as a front-end to a SQL Server
2000 (8.00.760 SP-3) database. SQL Server is running on a dedicated server.
There is a certain query, based on a view, that completes in about two
seconds via Query Analyzer. (It's a straightforward SELECT ... FROM
view_name WHERE ...; I'll spare you the code since the view does end up
hitting many tables, and I'm mostly curious whether this is a well-known bug
I wasn't able to find.) The query returns less than 300 rows.
We're using that query as the Row Source for a combo box in the ADP
front-end. When attempting to expand the combo box, the ADP seems to
freeze. CPU utilization for sqlservr.exe jumps to around 99. Firing up
Profiler beforehand and doing a trace on SQL Server shows a
SQL:BatchStarting and SQL:StmtStarting, with the TextData being the SELECT,
as I'd expect.
Eventually, if I kill the ADP (via task manager), the trace shows a
SQL:BatchCompleted with high numbers for CPU and Reads (unscientifically, it
seems that the longer I let the ADP run, the higher the numbers). There is,
of course, no SQL:StmtCompleted. I'm inclined to believe that, somehow, the
way that Access submits the query is different from Query Analyzer and is
causing SQL Server to go into an infinite loop of some kind.
I'm hoping this is a straightforward, known issue. I'd rather not open a
call with Microsoft; the beauracracy here with providing the up-front fee
(even if it is refunded) would make doing so very painful and difficult. I
can provide more back-end code, the execution plans, trace information,
etc., if anyone takes an interest. Thanks in advance for any help!

The view on which the hanging SELECT is based includes a join between two
large tables; they were being joined on a shared derived (text) column
because the view writer didn't want to type out all the underlying integer
columns instead.
I re-wrote the view to use "real" columns and the problem vanishes (which
takes away some of the urgency). My original issue is, I think, still
valid-- a query that takes six seconds in Query Analyzer shouldn't run
indefinitely as the row source of a combo box-- but this may be a clue.

Opening a PDF report without the OPEN/Save Dialog

Is there a way to render the PDF report in the same broswer window you just called it from without the Open/Save dialog box coming up. The report is being call directly by URL parameters for PDF formatNo there is not. We set the Content-Type to attachment which causes IE to prompt for this.|||

This is quite easy with custom programming, I've made a new webapp and gave the aspnet-user full access to reporting services, maybe you could add a cutom file to the Reports-Webapp..

I've default.aspx:

<%@. Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %>
<%
Dim pdfloader As New PDFLoader(Request, Response)
pdfloader.show()
%>

and default.aspx.vb:

Public Class PDFLoader

Private request As System.Web.HttpRequest
Private response As System.Web.HttpResponse

Public Sub New(ByVal request As System.Web.HttpRequest, ByVal response As System.Web.HttpResponse)
Me.request = request
Me.response = response
End Sub

Public Sub show()
Dim rsExec As New ReportExecutionService
rsExec.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials

' Prepare Render arguments
Dim historyID As String = Nothing
Dim deviceInfo As String = Nothing
Dim format As String = "PDF"
Dim showHide As String = Nothing
Dim results() As [Byte]
Dim warnings As RepExServ.Warning() = Nothing
Dim streamIDs As String() = Nothing
Dim encoding As String = String.Empty
Dim mimeType As String = String.Empty
Dim reportName As String

Dim zaehl As Integer = -1
Dim names(), name, values(), value As String
Dim ParameterValues() As RepExServ.ParameterValue
ParameterValues = New RepExServ.ParameterValue(0) {}

names = request.QueryString.AllKeys
For Each name In names
values = request.QueryString.GetValues(name)
For Each value In values
If (name = "") Then
reportName = value
Else
zaehl = zaehl + 1
If zaehl >= ParameterValues.Length Then
ReDim Preserve ParameterValues(zaehl)
End If
Dim ParameterValue As RepExServ.ParameterValue = New RepExServ.ParameterValue
ParameterValue.Name = name
ParameterValue.Value = value
ParameterValue.Label = Nothing
ParameterValues(zaehl) = ParameterValue
End If

Next

Next

Dim ei As ExecutionInfo = rsExec.LoadReport(reportName, historyID)
If zaehl > -1 Then
rsExec.SetExecutionParameters(ParameterValues, "")
End If

'Exectute the report and send it to the Client
results = rsExec.Render(format, deviceInfo, "", encoding, mimeType, warnings, streamIDs)
response.ContentType = "application/pdf"
response.BinaryWrite(results)

End Sub
End Class

Partial Class _Default
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

End Class

This works just similar to the usual URL-Access method, but you can't specify any "rs:" - Parameters.. sampe call:

http://yourserver/YourWebApp/default.aspx?/RepPath/Repname&Parameter1=something

okay, I forgot something: you have to add WebReferences to you webapp:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms154699(SQL.90).aspx

|||Yes, you can always add your own web app to do this. I was stating that RS does not allow you to change this behavior using either URL access or Report Manager|||You can do this with the ReportViewer control, using the ExportContentDisposition property.|||

I also would like to open my report in PDF format without opening the Open/Save Dialog box.

I read that the ExportContentDisposition is indeed the property to use.

Is there a way to put this property in the URL when calling the report? Or do I have to use the ReportViewer Control? I am using SQL Server Reporting with ASP, not ASP.net

Thx

You can always mimic the approach given above of hainvg a custom page that does the export, just recode it in ASP, rather than ASP.NET.

Hope that helps,

I have just tried creating the web app posted by BenniG and it works great on my computer but when I try from any of my co-workers computers i get a scripting error stating invalid character on line 2 character 1.

I know this is pretty vague but then again so is the error.

Any thoughts?

Open Query File dialog box

Hi,
SQL2K+SP4
When I load up Query Analyzer and click File -> Open to open up a query
file, the open file dialog is always sorted by - i don't know
alphabetically.
How can I set the default to open up with files ordered alphabetically?
Thanks
HelenaQuery Analyzer uses the default directory order for the system, which is set from a registry entry somewhere in the bowels of Windows itself. The default order can be changed for all of the applications on a machine, but I don't remember how.

-PatP|||in the open file dialog, you can view by "details" and then sort by name, size, type, or modified date.|||Pat, thanks for replay

"Query Analyzer uses the default directory order for the system"

The files in Explorer / Outlook Insert File dialog box are in alphabetic order.
Its only in QA the order is wrong.

Thanks,
Helena|||Jezemines answer is the one to go with. There's no point fussing over this imo!|||I know to order the files in the box but I'm handling big number of scripts and I each time I want to open file I need to sort it first - its annoying

Helena|||Just in case somebody has the same problem, here is the solution:

Thanks
Helena|||You've GOT to be kidding|||I missed the part about her using Windows 98, although I remember the problem from back then too. This became a registry fix starting with Windows 2000, but I don't remember the registry key or the values anymore because I haven't needed it for years.

You can set the &rc:LinkTarget= URL parameter to use &rc:LinkTarget="_blank"

Not sure if you can set the property directly from the report itself.
